The sterile land

One morning in october 2009, the forest hill called Tierra de Algodón, in Cochoapa el Grande, woke up in flames. It was a reprisal by illegal loggers against the na´savi indigenous peoples after they decided to protect the pine forest. Wood from forest areas, located in the high mountain zones, are coveted by furniture enterprises and wood corporations and have a huge impact in water supply. (Photo: Prometeo Lucero)
