The Community Police was born on October 1995, as result of ungovernability and violence in the municipalities of La Montaña and Costa Chica, and is formed by nahua, na'savi, me'phaa indigenous and mestizo people armed with precarious resources. In 1998, is consolidated the Regional Coordinator or Community Authorities (CRAC), civil organization responsible for the administration and justice.   • One morning in october 2009, the forest hill called Tierra de Algodón, in Cochoapa el Grande, woke up in flames. It was a reprisal by illegal loggers against the na´savi indigenous peoples after they decided to protect the pine forest.  Wood from forest areas, located in the high mountain zones, are coveted by furniture enterprises and wood corporations and have a huge impact in water supply.  (Photo: Prometeo Lucero)
